UPPER LOT AFTERNOON CARPOOL PROCEDURE ONLY

There will be six zones ending at the entrance to the 4th & 5th grade building. All cars will be directed to exit between the two parking islands instead of at the furthest island. If your student does not come to carpool after the first call, you will be asked to park in the new Second Call Parking Area. If your student does not come after the second call, you will need to go into their building and get them.

Arrival Procedures

Morning Carpool General Guidelines

Cars must be in the parking lot by 8:10am (8:00am for Secondary School scholars) to not be considered tardy. It is best to be in line at 7:45am to ensure that your scholar will arrive to school on time each day. There are NO left turns out of the school parking lots onto Weddington Road between the hours of 7:45am-8:15am. ALL scholars must come through the carpool line. A staff member will oversee the unloading of every car in line. No scholar is to be let out of a car without a staff member present.

Morning Drop Off for Elementary Scholars

Elementary scholars may be dropped off in either parking lot. If you are coming from the McKee Road, we strongly encourage you to turn left into the upper parking lot (entrance between the painted rocks) in order to prevent back-ups on Weddington Road. If you are coming from Antioch Church Road, we encourage you to turn right into the lower parking lot (entrance near the Couchell Building). Do not stop in front of a building, as this disrupts the carpool pattern. Please proceed to the front of the line when dropping off your scholars. DO NOT pass cars in front of you, as this may cause accidents and unsafe conditions for our scholars.

Morning Drop Off for Secondary School Scholars and Siblings

Secondary school parents may drop off scholars from 7:45am-8:00am. The secondary school is located in our upper parking lot, which you enter by turning left into the entrance between the painted rocks. You will exit the upper parking lot via Simfield Church Road. Scholars may be dropped off in front of the building where staff members are assisting with carpool. Do not let scholars out of your car where staff members are not present. Do not stop in front of a building, as this disrupts the carpool pattern. Please proceed to the front of the line when dropping off your scholars. DO NOT pass cars in front of you, as this may cause accidents and unsafe conditions for our scholars.

Tardy Scholars

Elementary scholars who arrive in the lot after 8:10am are considered tardy. Secondary School scholars who arrive after 8:00am,are considered tardy. *This was regular procedure in the past. We apologize that this information was not posted on our website.* Parents must sign their children in at the front office (Elementary scholars get signed in at the Couchell Building, and Secondary School scholars get signed in at the Secondary School building) to get a tardy slip. If your scholar’s homeroom is located in another building, you will need to escort your child to that building after obtaining a tardy slip in the Couchell Building. The scholar will need to bring the tardy slip to his or her homeroom teacher to be permitted to class.

Dismissal Procedures

Afternoon Carpool General Guidelines

Cars may not line up in either parking lot before 3:00pm.

Carpool Signs

Carpool signs should be placed in the dashboard window and kept in the window until you leave the parking lot. (This will make it easier for the staff to know which kids to load in each car.) If a carpool sign is not present, the car will be pulled to the side, driver ID checked, and driver verified as an authorized driver on the carpool form with the office staff.

We will be phasing out the different colored signs for carpool to indicate the location which lot you should pick up from. This saves the school the time of creating new (blue) signs for rising 4th graders and saves the parents time because they will not have to come to the school to pick up new signs.

We also, will be reusing carpool signs from year to year, unless there is a change that needs to be made to the sign. It is a good idea to put your sign in a plastic sheet protector or laminate it. We are hoping this will help parents have one less thing to worry about at the beginning of the school year.

Afternoon Carpool (K-5 students)

Begins at 3:30pm. Grades 4 and 5 are dismissed from the upper parking lot (with and without siblings). Grades K-3 are dismissed from the lower lot (only if they do not have 4th-8th grade siblings).

All students will go to the classroom of their older sibling for carpool. This includes K-3 students that have siblings in Middle School. The K-3 students with Middle School siblings, will not come into the Middle School, but will be supervised in the 4th and 5th Grade building. They will be called at the same time that their Middle School Sibling is called. The siblings will meet at the carpool zone. This means parents in this situation, will not longer need to go through two separate carpools. However, parents that are picking up Middle School students with younger siblings, will need to arrive in the lot at 3:45. If parents enter the carpool line before that time, they will be asked to circle around again, because Middle school will not be dismissed until 3:45.

For example: If you have a student in First Grade and a student in 7th Grade, your First Grader will go to the 4th and 5th Grade building and be called at the same time as your 7th Grader. You would only go through the upper Middle School lot for pick up. You will need to arrive in the lot at 3:45. If you arrive too early, you will be asked to circle around again, because Middle school has not been dismissed.

There are NO left turns out of the school parking lots between the hours of 3:15pm-4:15pm. Cars must be in the parking lot before 3:55pm. If you arrive after 3:55pm, your scholar will be sent to afterschool. There is a $1.00 per minute charge up to a maximum of $20.00 for this service.

Afternoon Carpool (Secondary School scholars)

Begins at 3:45pm. Parents should not enter the parking lot until 3:45pm. Grades 6-8 are dismissed from the upper parking lot. Parents will enter through the entrance between the painted rocks and will exit via Simfield Church Road.

General Guidelines

Walkers

Scholars who walk must live within one mile of the school, and parents must complete a form to be approved by the administration. If a parent is driving a car to pick up a walker, then he or she must go through the carpool line. Walkers being picked up by a walking parent will meet at the roundabout near the Secondary School.

Church Next Door

We are NOT using the church next door for parking or carpool. Parents who park at the church do so at their own risk and may be towed. Parents are not to wait in the church parking lot until it is 3:00pm, when you are permitted to enter our lot for elementary dismissal.

Cell Phones

Cell phone use is prohibited to ensure that everyone is focused on keeping our scholars safe. Thank you for helping us maintain safety for everyone!
